Causes of the "Racist Tour"
There were a range of social and political causes that would inevitably lead to protest action in New Zealand and South Africa. These stemmed from the public view on the global issue of racism, sport and the infamous Apartheid regime in South Africa. The causes of the protest action toward the tour included the Apartheid regime in South Africa, introduction of the 1977 Gleneagles Agreement, postponement of the 1973 Springbok tour, and the formation of various key groups, mainly HART that opposed the tours.
